The information technology industry relies on access to a vast fiber optic cable network spanning the Country for purposes of locating Data Centers (DCs) which house specialized equipment to process and store data and facilitate communications. While small in terms of their physical footprints, DC’s account for 1.5% of all electrical consumption in the U.S.. In an effort to increase capacity and improve efficiency, it is estimated that in the next few years more than half of all DC’s in the Country will relocate to new facilities and/or outsource some of their applications.

Data Centers (DC)

  • Numerous fiber optic cable access points available
  • Potential for first carbon neutral DCs
  • Electrical needs may be met by renewable, geothermal electricity
  • Desirable direct current with base load reliability
  • Low humidity mitigates need for energy and equipment for dehumidification
  • DC waste heat can be combined with geothermal heat for project use on site
